In 2004, after 27 years of innovation and leadership in education and social services, Chris Trout founded Strengths in Focus to promote excellence in the development of resiliency and strengths-focused practices, especially in work with challenged and challenging youth. For the next three years, Chris' inspired writings, keynotes and seminars captured the attention of organizations across the US and in Canada. Chris frequently presented with resiliency training pioneer and author, Nan Henderson, during these early years and in 2006, published his first book, Reflecting Strengths: Transformative Stories from Resilient Youth, a collection of 21 reflections on strengths-focused ideas and strategies. During the same period, Chris launched the Strengths Blog and the Strengths Ezine, now with subscribers in 30 US states and nine countries worldwide. Perhaps most influential was the signature 2-day intensive training, Transforming Lives.
Ironically, while Chris' teaching and writing had a profound impact on the work of thousands of youth development professionals, these same adults wanted to apply these concepts to their own lives. Increasingly, Chris was responding to the needs of adult engaged in their own personal development process. In 2008, Chris' reflections in the Strengths Ezine began to focus almost exclusively on personal development and, in 2009, the first "life coaching" services were introduced with Manifest your Strengths, Claim Your Life and individual coaching.
Today, SIF is focused on the rich and vital journey of adults who seek greater clarity, focus and joy in their lives. An exciting menu of keynotes, seminars, online coaching groups and individual coaching has been introduced in 2010. Never forgetting the source of this exciting new work, Chris continues provide training and support for youth development professionals across North America.
